first day of college

I know, I know. I graduated in 2011, shouldn't I have headed off to college right after?

Well, yeah..

However, my family decided to move during that time frame... And seeing as I had zero support from them financially, I didn't think it was wise to jump into the whole debt thing right off just to get housing. 

So I decided to wait a semester before starting school and just live at home.

Stuff got complicated. College prices go down in a ridiculous way if you've lived in the state for at least a year. 

So I waited. And waited. And waited. 

And finally signed up for classes at Weber State University. I was gonna be a wildcat! I even painted my nails for the occasion. 

My dad was not happy with that. He thought going straight to a University was a stupid move and told me that I needed to look into the community college instead. 

Community College?

Perhaps the negative connotation that I seemed to have associated with community college had something to do with the only TV show that I regularly watch.

I applied to the school just to get my dad off my back. 

During my application process, I stumbled across a scholarship opportunity for the community college. Full tuition, say what?

Weber still wanted me to jump through a bunch of hoops to even get residency, which meant that my tuition was well over 4 grand. For TWO classes.

TWO CLASSES.

4 grand a semester, or free for the next three?

It wasn't a hard decision. 

It still breaks my heart that I'm not heading off to the dorms to start school.. But when was I ever involved in the social aspects of anything? Heck, I didn't even go to prom! 

So...

first day of summer

I'm using my first post in a very long time to tell you some good news. Very good news.

I put on my swimming suit for the first time this summer, and I'm happy to inform you that it is, in fact, too large for me. I'm shrinking. :)

Here's to slip'n slides, elephant skin swimsuits, backyard dance parties, and sibling bonding time. Helloooo, summer!

Mountain Dew & Engine Coolant

My dear friend has been fixing the cooling system on my car, free of charge. He's been trying to teach me a little about cars during the process, and I've picked up a thing or two.


First off, I now know how to jack my car. Step one, success.


Second, if one of your coolant hoses decides to disconnect itself, your car is going to do funny things. (Like start spewing smoke everywhere as it burns coolant off) Thank you, handsome stranger, for assisting me in the pouring rain. I owe you a cupcake, whoever you are.

Third, coolant is corrosive and kinda looks radioactive like mountain dew. Whatever you do, don't drink it. (thank you, captain obvious. Glad you informed me of that, sir! I was starting to get rather thirsty!)

Fourth, the clamps that come on cars when you buy them are a pain in the bum. After we spent far too long trying to take the clamps off, we had a few choice words for whoever invented those things. Basically, he should go drink coolant.

Since my mechanic doesn't charge me, I pay him in food. He might be cursing GM, but at least he's well fed!

So, I was pinning the other day and stumbled upon this recipe...

As I said earlier, coolant reminds me of mountain dew. Of course, I had to try them.

And guess what! They're tasty! Although, I DID make a couple tweaks to the frosting. I went a little light on the lemon juice and REALLY heavy on the mountain dew so that you could taste the flavor a bit more. AND I used throwback mountain dew, since that strange mechanic of mine prefers REAL sugar to high fructose corn syrup.

And they're good! If you like lemon cake, you'll like them.

Next step, turning them into cake pops. :)

Listen to a Prophet's voice

Conference weekends are just the best. There's just something about hearing and feeling the words those amazing men speak from the comfort of your own living room that makes me smile. Plus, you can't make cake pops in your pajamas during church on a normal Sunday, now can you? Three cheers for Spiritual enlightenment.




Oh, yes. Let's not forget the facebook freakout about seeing Elder Archuleta on the TV screen. He's a handsome fellow. I'm proud of him for giving up two years of his life to serve the Lord.


I also discovered Mindy Gledhill today. Her music makes me smile. I need more Sunday appropriate music. Any suggestions?
